The Maha Kumbh Mela hosts the most important holy bath. Millions of people at a time gather at the Triveni Sangam to be a part of this sacred tradition. Although it is believed to be sacred to bathe in the river throughout the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, which starts with Paush Purnima, there are special days that are even more vital! It is when the great processions take place with saints, their followers, and other religious groups (Akharas). They take part in a grand bathing ritual known as Shahi Snan or Rajyogi Snan that commences the Maha Kumbh Mela.
The biggest event of the festival is Shahi Snan. People believe they gain extra blessings by bathing after the saints. They think they get good deeds and wisdom from those holy men.
13 January 2025 (Pausha Purnima)
Paush Purnima falls on the 15th day of the bright phase known as Shukla Paksha during the Hindu month of Paush. On this day, the full moon prevails in the sky, marking it as the unofficial opening date of the Maha Kumbh Mela!
Paush Purnima marks the start of Kalpvasa. During this time, pilgrims stay by the river. They pray and follow strict spiritual practices at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

26 February 2025 (Maha Shivaratri)
Maha Shivaratri is an important day, especially for the devotees of Lord Shiva. It also marks the final holy bath for Kalpavasis or the pilgrims residing at the Kumbh Mela.
According to mythology, even the gods in heaven wait for this day eagerly, making it a very sacred and special day.
