Dos and Don’ts
DO:
- Check the website and app for information on travels, stays, dates, and events.
- Travel light. Carry only the most essential things, including prescribed medicines.
- Know the facilities – Know where the nearby hospitals, food stalls, etc. are located.
- Maintain the record of emergency numbers, passports, and ATMs when on tour.
- Use the designated bathing areas – Use only those ghats approved by the Mela authorities.
- Use public toilets – Only use the toilets and urinals that are available.
- Dispose of waste properly—Use dustbins and keep the place clean.
- Follow the signs—look for direction signs.
- Park in designated areas—follow traffic rules and park only in allowed spots.
- Report suspicious objects. If you notice something odd, tell the police or authorities.
- Follow a few rules, be sure to listen to announcements, and behave per the rules.
- Cooperate with authorities to make the Mela a success.
- Care for your valuables. Keep them safe. If you lose something, you can arrange for treatment at the Lost and Found stations.
- Plan your travels wisely. Keep extra time in hand for anticipated delays.
Don’ts:
- Do not bring valuable items, costly items, no extra stock of eatables, no extra clothing, etc.
- Do not trust any person you don’t know; do not lodge or eat at unauthorized places.
- Do not argue; quarrels may lead to fisticuffs. Avoid all kinds of fights and do not support someone if he is wrong.
- Stay within safe limits in the river; do not go beyond the mended section in which bathing is permitted.
- Don’t pollute the river; don’t use soap or detergent, and give puja materials.
- Avoid crowded areas if you are unwell. They may worsen your condition.
- Refuse the use of plastic. There are no plastic bags to be used in the city and Mela area.
- Do not defecate in the open—always use public toilets.
